Pre-Sales Technical Scoping

The Team 

This role is unique in the way that you will report into the Sales Director but will sit in between sales, project management and technical. You’ll work with the Account Management team to scope work, building relationships with the technical team to understand the requirements of each customer.

The Role and Responsibilities

This role is the glue that keeps the teams together and makes sure that the train runs on time. It will be your responsibility to make sure that IRM and our clients have everything in place for us to carry out a technical engagement.

You will quickly become an expert in information security and be able to identify what is required of the client and us to successfully complete our engagement.

The main part of the technical scoping role will be to support the sales team in translating client requirements into an actionable scoping document. You will attend both calls and meeting with the client to fully understand the work required, pulling all the teams together to ensure a successful test.

Main Requirements and Duties

  • Liaise with IRM clients to understand technical security testing requirements and translate these into concise scopes to be placed into commercial proposals by the sales team
  • Attend scoping calls or meetings with clients to capture testing requirements
  • Document detailed statements of work with clear pre-requisite requirements to ensure a successful delivery of client objectives
  • Support the sales team in the production of detailed bid responses for technical security opportunities
  • Have a sound knowledge of IT environments with ability to understand technical architecture documents, network diagrams, high and low level design documentation and be able to analyse these documents to produce statements of work
  • Accurately assess technical environments to ‘size’ testing requirements by gauging the number of days required to deliver a security testing requirement
  • Manage the interface between the IRM sales department , project management office and consulting teams


  • SC clearance (or ability to become SC cleared)
  • Technical sales background
  • Excellent written English for statements of work
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Team player
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and work to tight deadlines


  • IT-related qualifications
  • Experience and understanding of penetration testing and associated processes
  • Information security domain knowledge
